While many Americans know the face and marijuana-related mishaps of the fictional Nancy Botwin from Showtime’s Weeds (as portrayed by the brilliant and beautiful Mary-Louise Parker), there are numerous intelligent, compassionate, and ambitious females who are working tirelessly above the board in mainstream America, infiltrating and influencing the fields of media, PR, journalism, public policy, commerce, and grass roots activism.

Here are five of the women who inspire us to keep fighting the green fight!

Dr. Dina on Good Day LA

1. Dr. Dina - Purportedly the inspiration for the aforementioned protagonist of Showtime’s long-running comedy Weeds, Dr. Dina has the incredibly enviable position of being the cannabis consultant for rappers Snoop Lion and 2 Chainz in addition to numerous other celebrity clients. We don’t know if the notorious “MILF Weed” was created for her, but we do know that she is a bold and beautiful advocate for the legalization of medical marijuana. As the cannabis expert for Good Day LA, Dina has her pulse on the rapidly expanding cannabis movement and keeps a whole bunch of irons in the fire (pardon the pun).

Cheryl Shuman on Dr. Phil’s Show

2. Cheryl Shuman - Known in the industry as “the Martha Stewart of Marijuana,” Cheryl Shuman may be the most powerful force in cannabis marketing. With her PR empire of television and film clients as well as the prestigious Beverly Hills Cannabis Club which she started in 1996 as a way to demystify cannabis for high-end professional clientele, Shuman is one of the most visible activists for marijuana legalization and education. Though some decry her focus on wealthier Americans as elitist and exclusive, we at Vaporizer-Review applaud Shuman’s efforts especially her advocacy and promotion of Moms for Marijuana, a grassroots organization of mothers who advocate for the sensible and compassionate use of marijuana for patients in need.

Dale Sky-Jones, Executive Chancellor of Oaksterdam University

3. Dale Sky-Jones - As the Executive Chancellor of Oaksterdam University, the first marijuana education institution ever created, Ms. Jones was responsible for uniting the intra-school community as well as the Oakland neighborhoods and city councils to permit the re-opening of the University after a 2012 DEA raid. At Oaksterdam she works diligently to establish successful models for controlling, taxing, and regulating of cannabis businesses by establishing partnerships between industry leaders and other community pillars such as labor unions, law enforcement, media, and elected officials.

Jodie Emery in Vancouver

4. Jodie Emery - As the wife and business partner of noted cannabis outlaw Marc Emery, Jodie has taken her husband’s cause and remains a visible presence in the legalization community. She is the owner of Cannabis Culture Magazine and Pot TV, two long-standing icons in the marijuana movement. After Marc’s seed business was shut down and he was extradited from Canada to the United States in 2010, Jodie took over the reins of his empire and has partnered with notable voices like Radical Russ and Urban Grower to increase awareness and activism worldwide.

Alice Hoffman speaks at a NORML rally

5. Alice Huffman - The Vice Chair of the Coalition on Cannabis Policy Reform, and a frequent contributor to CA NORML policy efforts, Ms. Huffman is also the President of the California NAACP, a position she has held since 2000. She is also a steering member of the California Democratic Party Executive Committee and the Democratic National Committee. A graduate of UC Berkeley and the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Huffman is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the CEO of AC Public Affairs, an organization focused on grass roots organizing and crafting public policy initiatives.

Girl Power! For some reason I feel like us women are more reluctant to openly admit that we smoke marijuana. Even though it should not matter in some instances it is important to not let the entire world know that you vape. It is hard enough as it is for us to get ahead in the office environment and having people know that you get stoned is not always a good idea. Props to these professional women for letting the world know that they love to smoke pot.
